    13 Day Turkey & Greece Pilgrimage with Rev. Rhonda Rubinson



    Day 1 - New York, NY

    Evening departure from New York's JFK International Airport on board our jet for our journey to Istanbul. Dinner and breakfast will be served on fl ight.

    Day 2 - Istanbul

    Arrive in Istanbul where we will be met by our hospitality host and transferred to our hotel for dinner and overnight. Istanbul is the former Byzantium - the powerful capital of the Byzantine Empire, the stronghold of Early Christianity.

    Day 3 - Istanbul

    Spend an unforgettable day of sightseeing, featuring the Church of St. Saviour, one of the earliest and most important Christian churches, famous for its mosaics; the Byzantine Hippodrome, St. Sophia Church, the impressive Blue Mosque, the Topkapi Palace home of the Ottoman Sultans for 400 years and the Grand Bazaar. Overnight in Istanbul.

    Day 4 - Istanbul/Kavala

    After breakfast depart for the border and cross into Greece with beautiful scenery on the way. Upon arrival in Greece we will visit the beautiful town of Kavala, called Neapolis in the days of Paul (Acts 16: 11). From here continue to the site of ancient Philippi where Paul wrote the letter to the Philippians, started to preach the word of God to the nations, and baptized the fi rst Christian on European soil. We see the Baptistry of Lydia, the ancient theater and visit the place where Paul was fl ogged and imprisoned. Dinner and overnight in Kavala. (B,D)

    Day 5 - Kavala/Thessaloniki

    After breakfast we will depart for Thessaloniki; a city that is over 2300 years old. It was built in 316 BC by Kassandros, the Macedonian King, and was named after his wife, Thessalonika the sister of Alexander the Great. It was here that Paul wrote his letter to the Thessalonians. Later the city fl ourished under the Byzantine Empire. Our tour includes the Roman Market, theatre and baths, Arch of Galerius, the City walls, Chain Tower and Citadel, the White Tower, Byzantine churches, the cave and well of the Apostle Paul, House of Jason, Monastery of Vlattadon, Aristotle's Square, and statue of Alexander the Great. We also visit the archaeological museum with the treasures of Vergina. Dinner and overnight in Thessalonika. (B,D)

    Day 6 - Thessaloniki/Kalambaka

    We drive to Veria (ancient Berea), where the Christian congregations were devoted to Paul's works. We stop for a visit at the monument dedicated to the Apostle. Then we continue to Kalambaka to visit the famous monasteries. Perched atop soaring cliffs, gigantic rocks have been etched by time into a variety of shapes rooted deeply in the ground yet completely isolated from the world around them. The Monasteries with their wooden galleries and corniced rooftops hang precariously over the breath-taking abysses, with the Pindus range at their back. We return to Kalambaka, for dinner and overnight. (B,D)

    Day 7 - Kalambaka/Delphi/Athens

    After breakfast we depart, through the mountainous Greek countryside arriving in Delphi, the center of the ancient world - the “Omphalos” (“Navel - of the Earth”) whose prestige extended far beyond the boundaries of the Hellenic universe. On the slopes of Mount Parnassus, a landscape of unparalleled beauty and majesty lay the ruins of the Sanctuary of Apollo Pythios. Visit the treasury of the Athenians, the temple of Apollo and the museum containing such masterpieces of ancient Greek sculpture as the bronze Charioteer and the famous athlete Aghias. Continue to Athens for dinner and over-night. (B,D)

    Day 8 - Athens/Corinth/Athens

    City sightseeing includes a visit to the world-renowned Acropolis, with the ruins of the Parthenon, Erechteum and Propylea. Then, we ascend Mars Hill, where Paul preached (Acts 17:16, 22). Also, view the Agora (ancient market place, and former center of Athenian public life), the House of Parliament, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Presidential Palace. We then Depart for Corinth with a brief stop at the Corinth Canal, which separates Peloponnese from the Greek mainland and connects the two seas (Ionian and Aegean). Later visit Corinth which was home for Paul for eighteen months. We visit the Archaeological Museum, the Bema, the Market Place and the Temples. From the Bema at Corinth, Paul spoke to the Corinthians about our Lord and Savior Christ. Return to Athens for dinner and overnight at our hotel. (B,L,D)

    Day 9 - Athens/Cruise/Mykonos

    Transfer to the port of Piraeus for embarkation on our cruise ship. Enjoy the many shipboard activities or just relax while sailing to the Island of Mykonos with its jet-set atmosphere, whitewashed buildings, sidewalk cafes, 360 churches and chic shops. Here we will see the Archeological Museum and Temples. (B,L,D)

    Day 10 - Cruise/Ephesus/Patmos

    This morning we arrive in Ephesus to visit the Temple of Artemis, “one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.” It is here Paul spent many years and wrote his Letter to the Ephesians. We continue on to visit the Monastery of John built over his grave. Then sail to the Island of Patmos and visit the Monastery of St John the Divine. It is here John wrote the Book of Revelation.     Day 11 - Cruise/Rhodes

    All day is dedicated to the island of Rhodes. Explore the sites in the historic Old City with its ramparts and palaces built by the Knights of St. John during the Crusades. Visit Lindos with Athena's temple. And if sightseeing is not your thing, Rhodes' sun-drenched public beaches and colorful shopping districts are within easy walking distance of the port. Sail from Rhodes around dinnertime. (B,L,D)

    Day 12 - Cruise/Crete Santorini

    We arrive in Crete where Paul and Titus visited in support of the Early Church. We will have time to visit the fantastic ruins before sailing to Santorini one of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean. There will be time to walk the cobble streets. (B,L,D)

    Day 13 - Piraeus/Athens/USA

    Today we disembark and are transferred to the airport for our fl ight home. Arrival the same day. (B)

    Day 13 – Athens/Amman

    This morning we transfer to the airport for our fl ight to Amman, Jordan. Upon arrival we will be met by our representative who will assist with formalities. Continue to the city of Jerash, known as the Pompeii of the East and the City of a Thousand Pillars. We will have time to walk around the ancient ruins, which includes churches, the triple arched gate, the high hippodrome, the Roman theater and Forum dating back to the 4th century. As we leave Jerash we drive to the beautiful city of Amman past the King Hussein's Sport City. We check into our hotel for dinner and overnight. (B,D)

    Day 14 - Bethany Beyond The Jordan/Petra/Amman

    After breakfast we depart for Bethany beyond the Jordan. The area at Tell-Al-Kharrar on the River Jordan has been identifi ed as the biblical site where John was living in a Byzantine Monastery with a large baptismal pool, and fi ndings from the fi rst century AD confi rm that this site was inhabited during the lives of Jesus and John the Baptist. We then drive south to the long lost city of Petra. This city with its rose-colored temples and amphitheater was carved out of multihued rocks. and is a UNESCO world heritage site which is more than 2,000 years old. Petra dominated the trade routes and was completely lost to the world for 300 years. In 1812 it was “rediscovered”. The Apostle Paul studied here for 3 years and Herod came from this city. After exploring this exciting sight we return to Amman for dinner and overnight. (B,D)

    Day 15 - Madaba/Mt. Nebo/Amman

    After breakfast we drive to Madaba where we will see some of the fi nest Byzantine mosaics. We then visit Mt Nebo with a remark able view of the Jordan Valley where we can see the Dead Sea and Jerusalem. It is here that Moses looked over the Promise Land but did not cross over. We return to Amman for sightseeing including stops at the Ragdan Hasehemote Square, the Rome theater and the Citadel. Dinner and overnight (B,D)

    Day 16 - New York

    Today our journey ends with many blessings and memories as we head home. We arrive home the same day.
